Three pieces, each 32" wide X 18" deep X 75" tall. Wood and wood veneer. one shelves. drop leaf and two-door cupboard, one shelves and two-door cupboard, one just shelves. All have back light on top shelf. $50 each, or $125 for all three. Please make me an offer. I would like them to be gone definitely by our party date, May 18, preferably earlier. While I will be away next week in Chicago, the rest of the Big Blue Household will be around.

They have been wonderful pieces of furniture in all of my homes, since I bought them in 1981 from Jordan's Furniture on Moody Street in Waltham. It is time for these to move on to another home.

I have posted the wall units from my family room on Craig's List... CL used to be the place to post things like these, but so far, all I've gotten have been scam responses. Sadly, I think it has outlived its usefulness, so I am offering them here, as well as on my DW & LJ pages.

I do not seem to be able to insert an image, as the functionality here requires it to come from a URL... Pictures can be sent..., or go look at CL here

Any one want a game of Monopoly? We seem to have an extra...

If you would like to contribute your favorite (or more than one) Badger story, please either post here for all to read, or send them to me at persis at thorndike dot name, and I will print them out and include them.

Badger's Memorial

Pat Washburn, Badger/[profile] badgerthorazine's sister, has been awesome and scheduled a memorial service.

Please forward as appropriate: Memorial service for Alice E. Washburn will be Friday, Jan. 13, at 3 p.m. at the MIT Chapel in Cambridge, with reception to follow at the nearby Student Center.

There will also be a memorial filk at Arisia, sometime later that weekend, at the Westin Waterfront Hotel, which will also include remembering Chris Croughton, aka Keris, a British filker who was in a fatal car crash in early November. Details on that will be forthcoming. (And also one at Boskone, and I expect Lunacon, and a reading or some other remembrance at Readercon; all these details still need to be figured out.)

Please excuse me if I have forgotten anything, I am low on spoons today.

Edit, 27 Dec 2011 18:41: Thanks to Joe Kesselman, reminding me of this. Yes, there are several organizations that the family would like donations made to in the name of Alice E. Washburn, aka Badger. Details will follow, soon.

Heavy Heart

It is with great sadness that I tell you that Badger/Alice E. Washburn passed away this afternoon at 2:06. Her family, partner Jeremy, sister Pat, Dad Stewart, and courtesy cousins Persis and Suli Isaacs said goodbye. She did not die alone. There will be memorial filks at Arisia, Boskone, and Lunacon and in some other form at Readercon. Other memorial details will follow.

Edit, 27 December 2011, 0:09: If you can offer support to Badger's sister, Pat, their dad, Stewart, or to Jeremy, her partner, it would be greatly appreciated. The family has decided that in lieu of flowers, that donations should be made to Mass General Hospital, or to the Carl Brandon Society. I will post links/addresses when I have some more spoons.

EDIT, 27 Dec 22:53: The memorial at Readercon will not be a filk, but will have some other form.

Christmas Badger Update

Badger's sister, Pat updated this morning: As of now Alice has the dialysis line in place and seems to be tolerating it reasonably well. It's one of those times when "much the same" is actually good news. Dad and I will regroup and see how things are tomorrow.

I believe I will still be going in the MGH later this afternoon, and will take good wishes, hugs, and prayers with me.

Badger's sister, Patricia Washburn, posted this morning after we held our family conference at MGH with Dr. Stephanie Whitener and one of the nurse's: Alice E. Washburn/Badger [profile] badgerthorazine has had a setback and is experiencing some strain on her heart and kidneys as well as her original lung failure. She and Jeremy Parsons are very fortunate to have awesome friends in Suli Isaacs and Persis Thorndike, as well as all the many others who are praying/visualizing/thinking good thoughts. Dad and I will be celebrating a quiet holiday and wishing you all comfort and peace.

If you have been keeping Badger in your hearts/prayers/thoughts, please continue to do so. I am planning on going in again tomorrow or Monday.

More Badger Update

Wednesday evening, I went in to see badgerthorazine Badger/Alice E. Washburn. She was looking good, has some colour, and the nurses are braiding her hair in a very regular basis. Still in medically induced coma, but her nurse Crystal said she is continuing to make infinitesimal positive babysteps. I read Tanya Huff's short story, I'll Be Home For Christmas, hung some pictures on the poster, and read some fb updates and well wishes to her. Please continue the positive prayers, energy and thoughts.

Patricia Washburn posted Thursday that she talked with the nurse on her unit and Badger/Alice E. Washburn is no longer on the paralytic medication. She's still deeply sedated but she has taken the first step on the path toward recovery. This is good news, but still a long road to go. Go, Badger! :-)

On another note, I am having trouble posting to MASSFILK, so if anyone has any suggestions... and I should post this to the filk community as well, but I am out of spoons for the evening.

Friday, I got a text from my friend Suli, who said that our friend Badger was in MGH and it did not sound good. She broke her left femur on November 15, had surgery on it November 18, was recovering (Suli and daughter went to visit on the 19th) and was in ICU as of the 20th. I went with Suli yesterday, Sunday, to visit. I hate when awful stuff is happening to my friends.

This was posted this morning on the Updates page: Badger's sister spoke with the nurse at MGH. The nurse explained that when Alice broke her leg, it most likely released fat from the bone marrow into her bloodstream and caused her to go into lung failure. There is not much they can do except keep her body supported while her lungs repair themselves, a process that is likely to take weeks. She is in a medical coma now, and is on the maximum amount of machine-supported breathing assistance. She's also fighting infection and they're keeping an eye out for blood clots.

This is pretty serious stuff and I'm sure her partner Jeremy would appreciate the support of friends now. Her sister is keeping in touch with the medical folk at the hospital, but I know Badger needs as much positive energy and prayers as we can all spare. This is going to be a long haul.

On other fronts, I have two contractors coming in to look and give estimates, and the insurance adjuster comes in tomorrow at 8 am. I am slowly getting a handle on cleaning up and out.

Someone at HarperCollins sent me a copy of Gregory MaGuire's Out of Oz. Thank you, annonymous gift giver!

It was great to see my step-mother while in SF visiting Mum and my sister. What a nice bonus. Talis loved seeing her too.

On Saturday, while waiting around for Spencer at Home Despot, I found out that Marty Gear had surgery on Friday, to replace his defibrillator (aka hockey puck). Having spoken to him yesterday, he sounds great and seems to be doing better than ever.

And this morning, I got a call and two e-mails about my next NORC project. I should be hearing more later today; training starts next week, the project begins in January.

So, this month has certainly had its ups and downs. December has got to be better.

Farm Day, week 2

This mornings work: dug black plastic trenches at both ends for 31 beds, removing tuber-root dock and crabgrass from the fields; pounded metal stakes for 5 beds of Pick-Your-Own sugar snap peas, strung netting for these 5 beds; pounded stakes for 3 beds shell peas, 3 beds of snow peas. And it was time for lunch.

Edit, 21:32; After lunch, we trellised the remaining 6 beds of peas and called it a day at 4:30ish.
